HISTORY

Since the return of democracy in 1999, the unprecedented unemployment/poverty debacle in Nigeria has been on the increases which lead to rural urban drift by able bodied men and women for opportunities. As a result African-American Centre for Governance and Development was established under Nigeria laws by Comrade Fred Adolf Aleburu in collaboration with some African-Americans in United States of America in 2004.

Everybody in the world should be able to enjoy an acceptable level of physical well-being. The need to reduce poverty has long been universally recognized and there have been important reductions in poverty over the decades. Nevertheless, poverty, in its many forms and with its multiple economic, social and political consequences, remains common and widespread.

BACKGROUND:

Today young people are the world future; they will one day build our societies, economies, and make decisions that will impact the lives of future generations. While much effort has been focused on the eradication of war and poverty that affect so many people, especially young people, little attention has been directed to the fundamental cause of some conflicts, poverty and unemployment. This however has been traced to poor governance. The international agenda has focused excessively on security issues and we must rebalance this international agenda to pay more attention to social issues.

Hunger

Hunger is actually the worst of all weapons of mass destruction in this 21st century. Efforts to improve governance have often been overlooked; young people are potential activists and agents of change in their communities and countries. They have the idealism, resourcefulness, responsiveness, and resilience in helping to address these issues.

AACGD aimed to include young people in her programmes in a bid to address governance, unemployment and corruption problems in Africa continent.

HOW TO REDUCE POVERTY

“TO REDUCE POVERTY IN AFRICA AND ELSEWHERE IN THE WORLD DOES NOT REQUIRE A LONG ESSAY PROJECT, BUT ON A MORE PRAGMATIC APPROACH WITH RIGHT ATTITUDE”
